'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date and news: Two new screenshots leaked
It's going to be a long while before "Kingdom Hearts" fans get to play "Kingdom Hearts 3," but Square Enix has released two new promo images featuring Sora in his Guard Form and it looks like he's fighting the Heartless in the cloud city of Olympus from Disney's "Hercules."
The images were released on Twitter, and the Guard Form will seemingly have the Keyblade turn into a shield. The shield also comes from the keyblade in Herc's shield, hence the cloud shape and the thunderbolts emerging from it.
The second image originally has Sora holding a keyblade, but since it was a keyblade that came from a yet-to-be-announced world, the developers have edited the image to make it look like a hammer made of light.
Some speculate that though the keyblade would likely come from the world of Hercules, it could also possibly be a weapon alluding to the newer Disney movies. Perhaps Sora is seen wielding a giant oar-blade from the upcoming "Moana." Nothing has been confirmed yet, but fans are definitely excited.
"Kingdom Hearts" is known for digging deep when it comes to integrating their world with the worlds from Disney. Aside from classics like "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," and "Hercules," "Kingdom Hearts" has also taken players to worlds like "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Tron," and "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
Could players be treated to worlds from "Frozen," "Big Hero 6" or "Zootopia?" Since it tackles video games, it's highly likely that the developers will try to tap into the video game movie, "Wreck-It-Ralph." It's also confirmed that "Tangled" will be one of the worlds.
As of now, Square Enix is prepping for the release of "Kingdom Hearts 2.8," so fans will have to wait for that before they can get more info on "Kingdom Hearts 3."
"Kingdom Hearts 2.8" releases Jan. 12, 2017.
