Kanye West vs Beck News: West Admits Mistake in Heckling Beck at Grammys
In a sudden about-face, West admitted that his stunt at the 57th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, last Feb. 8 was hypocritical after reflecting about his attitude when he interrupted Beck during his acceptance speech.
West had been outspoken about his belief that his friend, pop star Beyoncé, was more deserving of the award.
"I think this idea of being better than the next man is the wrong mentality in the first place," West said in an interview on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club.
According to the Daily Mail, the Bound 2 singer also said he now believes his antics were misguided, admitting that he had not listened to the tracks in Beck's album before he heckled his speech.
"The other day I went out to dinner with Taylor Swift and ironically they were playing the Beck album in the background," he said, according to the Entertainment Weekly.
"I was like, 'Man, this is kind of good. I ain't gonna lie.' I hadn't even heard it, man. I bet you that album is really good...Maybe it was potentially an Album of the Year,'" he added.
"But the Grammys are still ... they have a commercial component to it. And they want to sell commercials," he added.
The husband of Kim Kardashian also revealed he meant to call in Beck "but just keep forgetting."
Last week, the rapper recanted his rant against fellow artist Beck at the 2015 Grammys when West said he believed Beyoncé should have won Album of the Year.
"Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game," said West during Ryan Seacrest's syndicated talk show this week.
"When I said that thing about respect artistry, I think it came off the wrong way and that was a miswording on my part. Obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists, and respects artistry."
In 2009, West first interrupted Taylor Swift, who was about to give a speech for winning the Album of the Year over Beyoncé in 2009.
