'Justice League' release date and rumors: Jeffrey Dean Morgan may play Thomas Wayne as Batman
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" again saw the death of Bruce Wayne's parents. Some fans think casting "The Walking Dead" actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan for the role of Thomas Wayne was a clever nod to his previous work with director Zack Snyder, but could it possibly lead to something else down the line?
In an interview with Cinema Blend, Morgan talks about the possibility of playing the "Flashpoint" version of Batman if DC Entertainment ever plans on adapting the story to film. When asked about his role as Thomas Wayne, Morgan say, "Maybe when [Zack Snyder] cast me that was kind of the goal. Hopefully DC can figure this all out, and in a few years I can come back and do a Flashpoint Batman! I would love it. That would be great."
In the "Flashpoint Paradox" comic, the Waynes were still mugged in Crime Alley, but instead of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne dying, the one killed was little Bruce Wayne. This led Thomas Wayne to adapt the Batman persona himself while Martha Wayne went insane and became the Joker.
Having Morgan play Thomas Wayne's Batman at some point in the future would have been a brilliant foresight. Morgan has already proven himself to be quite the actor, and based on his role in "Watchmen," he can certainly bring the action.
Though a "Flashpoint" story may still be far down the line, fans speculate that it could possibly be presented in a "Flash" sequel. With alternate realities presented in the universe, more comic worlds can be introduced to DC. It's possible that the "Flashpoint" movie can even borrow elements from the comic "Red Son Superman" by Mark Millar.
Thomas Wayne may not be in the movies that are in the works for now, but fans are happy to know that Morgan is open to reprising the role.
"Justice League" is set to hit theaters Nov. 16, 2017.
