While not a lot of information has been released for "Jurassic World 2," director J.A. Bayona recently revealed that the latest installment in the dinosaur-themed action adventure franchise will be a fun endeavor and that it will be much larger in scope compared to the 2015 film, "Jurassic World."

In an interview with The Playlist, Bayona revealed what influenced him to take on the job as director of "Jurassic World 2."

"After doing 'The Impossible' and 'A Monster Calls' I said, 'I want to have fun now.' So, let's do a dinosaur film with Spielberg. It's great, but at the same time it's massive and way bigger than [the last] one," he revealed.

Bayona also mentioned that the challenge for "Jurassic World 2" was striking a balance between introducing newer elements but at the same time staying true to the legacy of the original film. He commended the work of Colin Trevorrow, who directed "Jurassic World." Trevorrow stepped down as director of the sequel but will co-write the screenplay with Derek Connolly.

"I was kind of surprised when he pitched me the story because it leads to a place that we've never seen before and it brings some of the most important elements from the other films and makes something with them," Bayona teased, adding that with the movie being the second installment in a planned trilogy, it will do a good job of making viewers want more.

Unfortunately, the official synopsis of "Jurassic World 2" has yet to be announced. Reports suggest that the sequel could involve the weaponizing of dinosaurs. This plotline was briefly hinted at in "Jurassic World" with Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio) interested in turning raptors into weapons for war. It has also been rumored that the second installment in the rebooted franchise could tackle animal rights.

"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 22, 2018. Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and B.D. Wong will all be returning to star in the sequel.
