The "Jurassic Park" films may be entertaining popcorn movies, but they always have certain subtexts that make them interesting. The first "Jurassic Park" talks about the consequences of the irresponsible uses of science, and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" continues to explore the scientific progress and ethics subtext that was introduced in the first film.

While promoting "A Monster Calls," Coming Soon asked director Juan Antonio Bayona if "Jurassic World 2" would have a pseudo-political subtext of its own, and he confirmed that there would be subtexts in the film. "Yeah, you're right. I think there's a lot of that in the new 'Jurassic.' I think there's a lot of possessiveness towards our creations. I think it's very interesting where the new movie is heading," he said.

He also revealed that the film will talk about issues the world is facing right now, and it is going to be darker and grittier than its predecessors.

"It's so different from the other films, it talks a lot about the moment we live in right now. It's darker ... but at the same time it's going to be a lot of fun. It's a blockbuster, you have Chris Pratt, it's a great adventure, but it's very interesting the way the film is darker than the other ones," he stated.

Bayona has said before that "Jurassic World 2" will be a metaphor for the treatment of animals today, and the film will also explore humanity's consumeristic greed. Those are definitely real world issues that the movie can tackle.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are returning for the sequel to reprise their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. Meanwhile, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, and Justice Smith are also set to join the cast for the sequel. B.D. Wong's return as Dr. Henry Wu was also teased by producer Frank Marshall during a recent interview.

"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to premiere on June 22, 2018.
