'Jurassic World 2' release date news: Sam Neill says he has not been contacted to reprise any role
Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" was a massive success, and it managed to trigger a lot of nostalgia among viewers despite the absence of the original cast members. Star of the first "Jurassic Park" Sam Neill says that he has not been approached to reprise his role of Alan Grant, and he comments on what he thinks happened to Grant off-screen.
According to Slash Film, Neill says that he thinks Grant is officially done with dinosaurs. He said, "I think the problem is that no one knows where Alan Grant is anymore. He's retired from paleontology. He's sick to death of dinosaurs and running. He's not quite as fleet of foot as he was, and he's now retired to Dayton, Ohio, and has a very successful accountancy business... I think that's what's happened to Alan. Either that or he's dead."
Neill was absent in "Jurassic Park 2," but he found himself back in the franchise by the time "Jurassic Park 3" rolled in. He continues to joke about Grant's character and the trauma that he's experienced after the events of the third movie. "I don't think therapists are trained to deal with post-dino stuff," shares Neill, adding, "No. I don't think you get over it. Accountancy would be one way."
On a more serious note, however, he says that he has not been approached by anyone to reprise his role as the famed paleontologist. Fans would definitely be happy if a cameo or even a mention of Grant would make its way onscreen.
Interestingly enough, Neill, along with his "Jurassic Park" co-star Jeff Goldblum, have confirmed appearances in next year's "Thor: Ragnarok." The director of the movie, Taika Waititi, has worked with Neill in his movie "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" and he has given him a small cameo in the movie. Goldblum will play a character known as The Grandmaster.
"Jurassic World 2" is set to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
