'Jessica Jones' season 2 release date and news: Season 2 to be directed solely by women
The first superheroine introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). Fans are currently waiting for the second season of the show, and it's been revealed that every episode in season two will be directed by a woman.
The announcement was made by executive producer Melissa Rosenberg at the Transform Hollywood Symposium, and she said that all 13 episodes of the season will be helmed by women.
The first season of "Jessica Jones" touched on many modern-day issues about women's rights, but only a handful of the episodes were directed by women. With the move to have an all-female-directed season, Marvel Studios is taking a different stride when it comes to the male-dominated Hollywood industry.
"Jessica Jones" star Racheael Taylor (Trish Walker) has already expressed her enthusiasm for having the series helmed by different women, and even "Iron Fist" star Finn Jones has congratulated the studio for the move, saying, "Yes! More women directors please - proud our Netflix/Marvel family are yet again leading the way!"
When "Jessica Jones" first debuted, a lot of viewers couldn't help but notice how the series tackled issues like sexual abuse and addiction, something unique for the superhero genre to do. Kilgrave's (David Tennant) obsession with Jessica was very reminiscent of actual real-life abuse.
For fans who can't wait to see more of Jessica, she'll be appearing alongside the other Netflix heroes in "The Defenders" when it debuts next year. Ritter will be starring alongside Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Finn Jones (Iron Fist) and a bunch of other characters from the TV universe.
No official release date has been announced for "Jessica Jones" season two as well, but fans can expect it to arrive on Netflix in 2018.
