'Jessica Jones' season 2 news, air date: Female directors set for second season
The second season of Netflix's TV adaptation of the Marvel superhero Jessica Jones will be bringing in a number of female directors to spearhead the forthcoming 13-episode season of the show.
Executive producer Melissa Rosenberg recently made the announcement during a panel at Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment. The event was held last Friday at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
At the event, Rosenberg told the audience that the plan was to prioritize women directors for season 2. Once the selection has been made, the team will then entertain male directors later in the pre-production process. She added that Marvel completely supports her decision.
Rosenberg then said that someone had pitched the idea of having an all-female roster for the upcoming season. Although she didn't plan on doing so in the first place, she immediately entertained the idea.
Before Rosenberg's panel at the Transforming Hollywood 7 event started, she told Variety that the scripts for the upcoming season are currently underway and that they are almost done. Furthermore, the showrunner told the news outlet that they plan to start filming next year.
By committing to the plan, "Jessica Jones" will be one of the very few shows that will have an all-female directing roster.
Last month, Ava DuVernay's "Queen Sugar" recently confirmed that they too will be hiring female directors for an entire season. DuVernay announced that the production team intends to create opportunities for female directors who want to make it to Halloween. The show will even entertain directors with little or no experience.
The heroine will star in the upcoming Netflix show titled "The Defenders." Jessica Jones, along with Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, will be teaming up to protect their world.
Rosenberg has yet to announce the release date for "Jessica Jones" season 2. If the rumors are true, the show will be returning to Netflix in 2018.
