'Jane the Virgin' season 3 updates, news: Will upcoming season see pregnant Jane and depressed Michael?
"Jane the Virgin's" showrunner, Jennie Snyder Urman, already confirmed that Jane would finally lose her virginity in the third season. However, with Michael's life hanging in the balance, the million dollar question is, to whom will Jane lose it?
So far, spoilers for "Jane the Virgin's" third installment seem to indicate that Michael (Brett Dier) may or may not live to honor his marriage to Jane (Gina Rodriguez). The cast members and crew are keeping mum on Michael's fate who, in typical telenovela twist, was shot by Sin Rostro, disguised as his cop partner Susanna (Megan Ketch) on his and Jane's wedding night.
Even Urman was non-committal during an interview with ET Online where she said, "Regardless of if Michael lives or if Michael dies, it's what happens after. After something so traumatic, can you still hold on to your sense of magic a little bit? It's continuing that move from fantasy to reality."
What happened to Michael could give him a nudge in the head and make him and Jane realize that life is no fairytale. Of course, should Michael live through the ordeal, he could be the one to take off Jane's chastity belt, which means a pregnancy could be in the couple's horizon.
On the other hand, the harrowing experience could also traumatize Michael, as Parent Herald pointed out, to the point where his marriage with Jane is affected. Perhaps that's one of the arcs for the third season – when Jane finally realizes what "growing up" is truly all about.
In the interview with ET, Urman mentioned that the loss of Jane's virginity is but "a small cornerstone of our heroine's evolution," which could mean "Jane the Virgin" season 3 might be focusing on more serious issues.
"Jane the Virgin" season 3 will premiere on Monday, Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
