Jackie Chan's Son Jaycee Arrested News: Pleads Guilty To Drug Offense, Gets 6-Month Prison Term
The son of Jackie Chan was meted a six-month jail term on Friday after pleading guilty to "sheltering others to use drugs" before a court in China.
Jaycee Chan, who was indicted last month, pleaded guilty in Beijing's Dongcheng District Court for the drug offense.
"I have violated the law and I should be punished... After I return to the society, I will definitely not make a mistake again because I have made my family and friends disappointed for one more time," Chan said at the sentencing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"I have gotten the (punishment) I deserve, but it doesn't mean I have been forgiven. I hope I can use my actions in the future to get the forgiveness and to pass positive energy," he added.
Reports also said Chan was fined 2,000 yuan or about $322 USD, B.B.C. News China reported.
It may be recalled that the son of the veteran Hong Kong action superstar was arrested for smoking marijuana at a foot massage parlor in Beijing.
Police authorities then raided his home, where more than 100 grams of marijuana were found in August that could have him face a maximum prison sentence of three years.
His arrest happened on the year that the Chinese government heavily enforced a morality code among celebrities, some of whom have become notorious for taking drugs or visiting prostitutes.
Jackie Chan was not able to attend the trial, but the China News Agency reported that he was seeking help from his lawyers to shorten his son's term of imprisonment.
The actor, who was named an official "Narcotics Control Ambassador" by Chinese police in 2009, admitted feeling shamed by his son's behaviour.
In 2011, he announced he would be leaving his fortune to charity, rather than giving it to his son.
Last year, a Chinese media watchdog urged T.V. networks to ban "tainted" stars, who have used drugs or visited prostitutes from T.V. and other media outlets.
