'iZombie' season 3 updates, spoilers: No procedural element for upcoming season? Blaine to turn into good guy?
Is "iZombie" season 3 moving away from its usual take of each episode shown? That's what cast member Rahul Kohli seemed to hint during the San Diego Comic-Con.
"iZombie" has been known to be a procedural series since it was launched on The CW. That means a situation is introduced, investigated, and solved all within an episode. However, during the SDCC, TV Line's Michael Ausiello caught up with the cast and executive producers of the show for some updates, and Kohli, who plays Ravi on the series, hinted that the first episode of season 3 wouldn't feature the procedural element.
"The season 3 premiere takes place literally minutes after season 2, so it's a direct continuation from where we left and there's no ... procedural element to the first episode," he revealed in the interview.
There's no confirmation if "iZombie" would be serialized starting with the first episode of its third season, but what Kohli said could be related to what lead star Rose McIver told Comic Book Resources back in March. In her interview, she hinted that the third season's structure might be shaken up a bit, but the procedural elements of the series would remain.
"I think now that our show is going into the third season, there's room to shake the structure a little bit and play outside the box," she said. "There are certainly great things about it being a procedural ... [but] I feel like story-wise and character dynamic-wise, relationship-wise, there's really, really interesting stuff coming to play with."
In other news, the resident bad boy of "iZombie" recently revealed that his character might undergo a change of heart brought about by his memory loss. David Anders, who plays Blaine, hinted that he might be more of a protagonist in the upcoming season than a villain.
According to International Business Times, season 3 would see Blaine helping the lead characters instead of fighting them. In season 2, he was mostly killing people and selling their brains to zombies, but when he let his men to do the dirty work, he lost most of his past memories.
Nevertheless, during the season 2 finale, it looked like he was recovering his memories, because he knew where Mr. Boss' (Eddie Jemison) hideout was. He also protected Peyton (Aly Michalka) from Mr. Boss' henchmen, so it looked like he remembered who she was.
Could Blaine have been faking his amnesia all along? Fans would know the answer when "iZombie" season 3 returns to the small screen midseason of 2017 on The CW.
