Fans of the hugely successful supernatural horror series "Insidious" have reason to rejoice. "Insidious: Chapter 3" will be released on June 5.

However, some fans may be disappointed to note that the cliffhanger ending of the second movie ("Insidious: Chapter 2") will not be tackled. This is because the third installment of the series will be a prequel to the first two movies and will focus more on the life of one of the series' beloved characters, Elise Rainier, played by Lin Shaye. This is good news for those who would want to see Elise alive again.

Elise Rainier is the paranormal investigator, who along with her team, Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson), provided support to the Lambert couple Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) through their supernatural challenges with their son, Dalton. Elise dies at the end of the first movie, but returns in the second movie as a spirit that continued to assist Josh, Carl (Steve Coulter) and Dalton through The Further.

"Insidious: Chapter 3" will be directed by Whanell (he wrote the first, co-wrote the second films and starred in both as a part of Elise's team, Specs). It was Whanell's wish that the story of Elise be presented to the audience.

"Being able to go back and being able to tell a little bit of an origin story and to have Elise alive again ... I love Elise as a character, especially Lin Shaye as an actress, so I wanted to see Lin Shaye alive and I wanted to dig into her back story," Whannell said.

Whannell also said that avid followers of the series should be on the look-out for some "Easter eggs" in the third movie.

"Fans of the first two will see things and maybe even pick up on things more casual viewers don't," Whannell said. "Hopefully there are Easter eggs in there hidden for the more hard core Insidious fans. Generally there is a connection to the first film."
