'Injustice 2' beta release date news: beta confirmed; gamers can now sign up for it
Everybody who follows NetherRealm Studios' producer, Ed Boon, on Twitter knows what a big tease he can be. While many of his little teases never made it into the games he's working on, sometimes he does drop a hint or two that turns out to be true. His "Injustice 2" tease last year turned out to be true, and he's at it again this year.
Boon recently posted an image of several Greek letters on Twitter with the caption, "Don't know why, but I can't help feeling like there is something missing today...."
So, what is missing on that image? It's beta. Boon might not have said it aloud, but the image spoke volumes. He's hinting that NetherRealm's latest game, "Injustice 2," will receive a trail beta run before it comes out. Hours after posting it, Boon confirmed that the game is really going to have an online beta. Gamers can sign up here. The test is available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
This is actually a good move by NetherRealm. The best way to ensure that the game is ready for launch is to iron out the kinks. Nobody wants to release a half-finished product.
Game Rant's Derek Nichols pointed out that the studio has experienced some online issues before with their previous games, so a beta test is something that has to be done.
"Considering the myriad of online issues previous NetherRealm games have experienced in the past, this could be one way that the studio is making sure that its net code is rock solid prior to launch. Last year, Mortal Kombat X received a beta to test out online enhancements which ultimately went a long way into improving the experience for end users once the XL edition released," Nichols said in his piece about the online beta.
NetherRealm still hasn't announced the release date for the beta, but WWG believes it may start in March or April.
"Injustice 2" is scheduled to hit the shelves on May 16.
