'Indiana Jones 5' spoilers, plot news update: film still in 'thinking stages'; producer provides cast updates

"Indiana Jones 5" is slated for July 19, 2019, which means it will be a while to get concrete details about the film. In fact, the fifth movie starring the beloved archaeologist is still in "thinking stages."

Film producer Frank Marshall revealed in an interview with Fandango that the film is still in the early phase of its development, which suggests that they are yet to work the official plot out.

"I'm not involved until they come up with the idea and the plan of where they want to go. Then I get involved," he explained of the "Indiana Jones 5" development.

Marshall also sat down for an interview with Toronto Sun, where he spoke about how he and "Indiana Jones" director Steven Spielberg were able to win over Harrison Ford to don Indy's iconic fedora once more.

"It's a question of looking at it and not forgetting where it came from," Marshall said. "The basic idea was built off of the serials [that were most popular in the 1940s and '50s]. Now we want to keep going on these adventures with Indiana Jones in a serial way. [To do that] you really have to remember how you got there," he explained.

While Ford has already sealed his involvement in "Indiana Jones 5," Marshall knows that things could still change especially with the film still far away and Ford sometimes being a bit curmudgeon.

However, he hopes to seek the help of his wife, Kathleen Kennedy, who happens to be the president of Lucasfilm. After all, it was her who managed to convince Ford to reprise his role as Han Solo in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

At the moment, however, the actor is committed to "Indiana Jones 5." In fact, even before it was made official, Ford has shown interest and enthusiasm in playing the character again.

As for Marion Ravenwood reprising her role as Karen Allen, Marshall does not have an answer to that yet as the ball is still on Disney at the moment.
