iMac 2016 release date, specs rumors: New report suggests 'late 2016' launch
Multiple reports claim that the iMac 2016 will be released next month, while others suggest that a June 2017 launch is expected instead.
According to TechRadar, Apple usually releases new versions of its desktop computer every two years. Last year just saw the launch of the latest model, which comes in the form if a 21.5-inch iteration with Retina 4K resolution display.
The abovementioned site believes that the iMac 2016 might not see the light of day until next year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which takes place on the month of June.
However, a new report by Bloomberg suggests that a new iMac will be debuted this year. The publication claims that Apple is preparing a "refreshed Mac hardware line."
This line includes a "thinner" MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air, a 5K standalone monitor the company is developing with LG Electronics and of course the iMac 2016.
This new bunch of Mac devices will reportedly be ready by "late 2016," which suggest that an October launch for the iMac 2016 remains very plausible.
With regards to the specs, the new Apple-branded desktop computer is expected to come with the same 5K resolution display and a much more powerful processor in the form of a Kaby Lake processor.
Intel's seventh-generation chipset is now being rolled out although it is rumored that the desktop versions will not be up for grabs until December.
If this will be the case, Apple is facing the potential of delaying the iMac 2016 to December. Nevertheless, it appears to be a much greater deal than a 2017 launch.
The wonders of Kaby Lake include USB 3.1 support, Thunderbolt 3 and of course, lightning speed performance. It should also be powerful enough to handle 5K. HDMI 2.0 is also expected to have native support in it.
For now, Apple's upcoming keynote event is set Sept. 7, where it is expected to launch the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The iMac 2016 and the other Mac devices might be released the month after.
