HTC's latest version of its flagship smartphone One M9 drew raves from industry pundits for its design following its release earlier this year. Last year, the device with the most eye-catching design was the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge which has a curved screen flowing over its right edge. Here is a comparison between the two devices:
Design
Samsung experimented with the curved screen on the Note Edge and it resulted in a lovely phablet. The curved portion of the device is completely independent from the main screen and displays notifications and a night clock. It can also hold a number of the user's favorite apps which can be launched even when another app is being used on the main screen. As for its design, the Note Edge is largely made from plastic. It has a leather back panel and metal frame to provide extra durability. As for the One M9, it comes with a full metal body which is hand-polished and has rounded edges. It is available in gold/silver combination, gun metal, amber gold, and pink.
Display
The Note Edge is bigger and has Super AMOLED display measuring 5.6 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels and a density of 524 pixels per inch. The One M9 has Super LCD3 screen measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.
Specs
The One M9 comes with the latest processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, with eight cores in its CPU, four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2 GHz, and an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the Note Edge it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, a quad core Krait 450 CPU clocked at 2.7 GHz and an Adreno 420 GPU.
Memory
When it comes to memory slots, both devices are similar as they each have versions that can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. They also have a similar 3GB RAM on board.
Price
The HTC One M9 is priced at $199 with a two-year contract, while the Note Edge is priced at $399 with a similar contract.
