'How to Get Away with Murder' season 3 release date, plot spoilers: Frank coming back? Viola Davis confirms filming has started for upcoming season
Fans of ABC's courtroom drama "How to Get Away with Murder" won't have to wait longer for season 3. Based on photos shared by its showrunner and lead star, it looks like filming for season 3 is underway, so it's all systems go for the Sept. 22 premiere. Moreover, if spoilers are to be believed, a character presumed gone might be coming back this season.
Showrunner Pete Nowalk posted an Instagram picture stating that the first shooting day for season 3 has begun, and it looks like the scene being shot was set in court. Viola Davis, who plays Annalise Keating, also shared a "set selfie" on her Instagram account with her team, minus Charlie Weber, who plays Frank Delfino.
Weber's absence in the photo prompted fans to question whether the actor is out of the series or if he will be back for season 3. After all, his season 2 exit made it look like he won't be back for the third installment.
Fans would recall that in the season 2 finale, Frank was seen clearing his apartment. He's going away primarily because he was involved in a staged accident that took the life of Annalise's husband and unborn baby. He also killed a recurring character who knew his secret and accepted bribe from Wallace Mahoney (Adam Arkin), Annalise's client.
However, TV Line has confirmed that Frank will be back this season. Nevertheless, Davis won't have scenes with Weber, probably because it would be logical for Annalise not to cross paths with Frank again.
"My mind, as Frank, goes certain places. But ultimately, Pete Nowalk is the only person who knows the truths about these things. He seems to let things simmer before he puts pen to paper," Weber told TV Line concerning his character.
"How to Get Away with Murder" season 3 will premiere on Sept. 22, 10 p.m. ET, on ABC.
