'How to Get Away With Murder' season 3 episode 3 spoilers: Could Annalise be tried for murder?

"You can't keep me from teaching my students." Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) challenges the university board's decision to suspend her in episode 2 of "How to Get Away with Murder" season 3. | YouTube/ABC Television Network

After the previous episode of "How to Get Away With Murder" took one potential victim off the list, speculations about who died this season are carving up a new path. Especially since it was hinted that whoever died may have just died in Annalise's (Viola Davis) scheming hands.

When the house fire that's about to happen two months from the present timeline was introduced in the premiere episode, it inspired sympathy for the law professor who was about to lose someone she held dear. However, the second episode of ABC's mystery legal drama's third season presented a completely new side to the story — one that does not bode very well for Annalise and for someone who may have crossed her.

Episode 2 was titled, "There are Worse Things Than Murder," which clearly referred to the case of the week involving a battered wife who murdered her husband about three decades ago. However, could it also have hinted on the motivation behind the potential murder that's about to happen at Annalise's house in two months?

Could Annalise, who has put herself on the line to protect the Keating 5, actually be capable of turning on one them to protect her reputation? Or could that corpse under the sheet be someone who threatened to compromise her and the Keating 5? Frank (Charlie Weber) quickly comes to mind. There's also the new president of Middleton University (Luna Vélez) who may just be playing nice to blindside Annalise and pull the lid off on all of her secrets.

In an interview with Variety, Conrad Ricamora, who plays the tech expert Oliver, and who has just been revealed to not be the body under the sheet, stated that the cast already knew who died in that particular scene and that it's going to be a heartbreaking loss for the show.

When asked if it was going to be a major character, Ricamora claimed that it's a character that's pivotal to the show, but did not confirm whether or not he or she had already been introduced. He added that the answer would be something that the viewers may not expect.

The next episode of "How to Get Away With Murder" will take the Keating 5 to court with a high-profile case that may test their morals, while Laurel may finally find some answers on Frank's whereabouts from the most unlikely source. It may also reveal more clues on this season's mystery dead body.

"How to Get Away With Murder" season 3 episode 3 is titled, "Always Bet Black" and will air on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
