The TV Land network is all set to give the comedy "Hot in Cleveland" the axe after it finishes with Season Six, which is still yet to air. That's cold news to those who enjoy the first original, scripted situation comedy to come out of TV land.

"Hot in Cleveland" was able to capture a good following ever since it was first broadcast in 2010. Comedy geniuses Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and TV queen Betty White deserve the credit for keeping audiences amused with their antics. Suzanne Martin was responsible for creating the series. Martin is no stranger to comedy, having been honed in "Frasier."

Among the many things that can capture the interest of fans as far as the history of "Hot in Cleveland" is concerned is the fact that it unexpectedly became the vehicle for Betty White to have another chance to showcase her acting chops through regular series work.

White was already 88 years when "Hot in Cleveland" began. She had been initially cast with the idea that her role would only be a one shot deal -- that is, she'd play a substantial role in the pilot, and the series would then move on without her.

But things turned out differently because White has been an important part of the series, turning in some of the finest performances in her acting career. In 2011, she was nominated for an Emmy award in the supporting comedy actress category, playing the part of Elsa Ostrovsky. In 2011 and 201, she won in the Screen Actors Guild awards.

After the 100th episode milestone in September of this year, "Hot in Cleveland" was sold, becoming an item in local broadcast syndication, aside from being shown in 210 territories globally. That's an achievement that isn't easy for a cable sitcom to reach, and those who love the series are hoping to catch reruns in the future.
