'Homeland' season 6 spoilers, news: Could Carrie find inner peace if she's bound to her duty to country?
Earlier spoilers for "Homeland" season 6 alluded to the fact that Carrie Mathison would want nothing more than to achieve inner peace after leaving the CIA. What would happen, though, if the duty to country that has been deeply instilled in her gets the better of her?
As much as Carrie (Claire Danes) wants to move on from her complicated and dangerous life as a CIA agent, which might not be possible especially since "Homeland" season 6 is expected to return to American soil. She would try to live a normal life in New York with her daughter, and while that would seem possible at first, she might be lured back to her calling, especially with a new and powerful ally.
Danes has previously shared that Carrie's biggest enemy is herself. No matter how hard she tries to separate herself from the intel community, something happens to lead her back to her life as an agent. In the actress' words, being a CIA agent is Carrie's "calling."
"She's pretty ravaged, you know, by the end. She's been through yet another ring of hell, so I think she always, in the beginning of the season, seems in the mood to stabilize, and then her calling disrupts that, so I think it'll be more of that," Danes shared with Entertainment Weekly.
Hence, it seems likely that when terrorist groups threaten America, especially with season 6 set during a tumultuous post-election period, Carrie would answer her calling and be back with the CIA faster than viewers could blink.
Still, it would be a treat to see Carrie trying desperately to create some semblance of normalcy for her and her child. In fact, showrunner Lesli Linka Glatter told Huffington Post that Carrie might even try her hand at running a coffeehouse, since that would be as normal as it gets for her.
"Homeland" season 6 airs in January on Showtime.
