"Hawaii Five-0" will be heading to Mexico this Friday, Dec. 16, as the team tackles a personal case in the midseason finale of season 7 of the police procedural series.

According to the synopsis for the upcoming episode titled "Ka'ili aku (Snatchback)," Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) will put his life on the line after niece Sara (Londyn Silzer) gets kidnapped. In the promo, the team is seen rushing to Mexico after Chin receives word of Sara's abduction. When Sara's adoptive parents are unable to come up with the money for ransom, Chin is left with no choice but to devise a dangerous plan that may end up costing his life.

In a recent interview with TVGuide, Kim shed light on his character's emotional ties to his niece and why he will stop at nothing to get her back.

"Chin hasn't had love in his life in a while, and it seems to have taken a new form in this little girl. Sara represents something he's never had in his life. He's never had to take care of someone other than the family that's Five-0," the actor explained.

While viewers will be on the edge of their seats and eagerly anticipating the resolution to this new dilemma, there's a big possibility that they will be left hanging for the duration of "Hawaii Five-0's" winter hiatus.

In an interview with the media outlet last month, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov revealed that they will be trying something new for the upcoming midseason finale.

"We're building to a pretty big midseason finale cliffhanger in Episode 11. We've never really done that, by the way, sort of end on a cliffhanger midseason. So we're trying that this year," he said.

When asked about who will be involved in the cliffhanger, he simply stated, "One Chin Ho Kelly."

In other news, the upcoming episode will also see the return of Duane "Dog" Chapman as himself and George Takei as Uncle Choi.

Season 7 of "Hawaii Five-0" airs every Friday at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
