'Han Solo' spinoff news: Donald Glover talks about living up to the expectations of him playing young Lando
As of now, fans are still a movie and a year-and-a-half away from the tipped "Star Wars" anthology film featuring the early days of everyone's favorite space smuggler, Han Solo. While arguably the bulk of everyone's attention is set on Alden Ehrenreich as he tries to step in the humongous shoes that Harrison Ford has previously worn, Donald Glover's incantation of Billy Dee Williams's fan- favorite Lando Calrissian is also getting his own due.
Fresh from his momentous night at the recently held Golden Globes for his work in "Atlanta," Glover has talked to a couple of press during the event's backstage media roundup. And understandably so, a lot of questions were pointed toward his upcoming gig as the smooth-talking con-man.
"Not getting to eat anything enjoyable for the rest of my life," Glover told the gathered press jokingly which was then met with laughter. "Lando's a big deal to me. It was literally the first toy I ever got. When you have something that's kind of iconic ... where people pay attention to it, it's hard because you want to live up to the expectation. But all you can do is live up to your own. And Star Wars is really high."
Glover will treat fans to a glimpse of what Lando was up to before he made his debut as the treacherous Bespin in "Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back." But with cameos in other lore properties like "Star Wars Rebels" set a couple of years before the original trilogy, viewers can expect the same smooth and suave-talking smuggler, only younger and not marred with the deal he made with Vader to sell Han.
"I really just want to have fun. The directors: [Christopher Miller and Phil Lord], they're amazing. I love the guy who is playing Han. It's going to be a good time. It's going to be fun. I'm getting ready to just have fun with those guys," Glover added.
Meanwhile, pre-production for the yet-to-be-titled film is presumed to be already rolling with tips of filming locations supposedly rounding the internet. Courtesy of a local Spanish cinema blog ElBlogDeCineEspanol and subsequently picked up by Star Wars News Net, the primary location of the shoot will be in Fuerteventura, which one of the Canary Islands. Italy, on the other hand, will be the backdrop to some other sequences which indicates that the film will be taking on a more picturesque setting.
The Han Solo prequel spinoff film is originally scheduled to hit theaters summer of 2018 but rumors of a December release instead is also making the waves online.
