'Halo Wars 2' release date: New gameplay footage revealed; 'completely new' game mode detailed
Developer 343 Industries has previewed the first mission in the single player campaign of the highly anticipated sequel "Halo Wars 2" at PAX West this week.
As revealed in the clip, the game takes place shortly after "Halo 5: Guardians" and sees the crew waking up from cryogenic sleep 28 years. There will be new characters to see in the game.
343 Industries head Dan Ayoub says that "Halo Wars 2" will be a unique type of a real-time strategy, which the series is known for.
"One of the modes, which I can only tease for the time being, is actually a completely new way to play a RTS," he said during the event as quoted by DualShockers.
"It really takes standard RTS gameplay and turns it on its head. And that's a mode that can be played in a shorter time frame as well, like five, six, seven minutes," he continued.
Cinema Blend says that it is a bit of an out-there idea for "Halo Wars 2" to feature a game mode that only last that short especially considering the fact that typical ones usually run 20 minutes at the least.
The site suggests that the mode could be unit based, which means that will feel much like first-person shooter deathmatch where players can put together a group to take down another.
Ayoub did not go into detail as to what the "Halo Wars 2" mode he was referring to and what it is all about. Fans might see it first-hand though during the open beta to be held during the beginning of next year.
It is unknown if more "Halo Wars 2" reveals will be made prior to the said beta, but since the game is set for early next year, fans can expect to learn more about the game in the coming months.
"Halo Wars 2" will be released on Feb. 21, 2017.
