'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' release date, updates: Chris Pratt talks about the movie's spectacle
"Guardians of the Galaxy" was a surprise hit for Marvel Studios and the movie has been widely considered as one of the best entries of the superhero franchise. Post-production for the sequel is well underway. Chris Pratt, who plays Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, talks about the movie and how it's going to be one big spectacle of a film.
In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Pratt goes on about how fortunate he feels for being included in the film and how proud he is of the results of their hard work. He says, "It's a fabulous script. I think it's going to be — I'm not using hyperbole, here — I think it's going to be the biggest spectacle movie of all time."
Before the movie was released back in 2014, "Guardians of the Galaxy" was a relatively unknown property of Marvel. It took an insane gamble for studio execs to give the movie a decent budget. Taking the risk paid off, however, and "Guardians" has made its way into the hearts of children and adults all over, making it another pop culture phenomenon.
The movie has also managed to boost the star status of Pratt, who starred in two box office hits that year, the other being Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World." He's come a long way from playing the lovable idiot Andy Dwyer from "Parks and Recreation."
The director James Gunn has also fallen into the spotlight, and he has been very vocal on social media about the film. He says that he and Marvel have big plans for the movie and that they plan to release something that will "honor the characters and surprise audiences in a positive way."
The movie will have the main cast members like Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper. and Vin Diesel returning for the sequel. This time, they will be joined by Kurt Russell and Elizabeth Debicki as new characters.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" hits theaters May 5, 2017.
