'Grey's Anatomy' season 13B spoilers: Will fans ever meet Jo's ex-husband? Camilla Luddington thinks so

A huge part of this season's character development for Alex (Justin Chambers) is actually rooted down in Jo's (Camilla Luddington) haunted past. Now that the latter has come clean about her mystery identity, fans are wondering if the introduction of her previous husband will eventually come to fruition sometime this season of "Grey's Anatomy."

Albeit seemingly trying to leave town by the end of the midseason finale of the long-running medical drama, viewers can bet that Jo is not going anywhere. If not, the character may even be more fleshed out now that her secret is already slowly unraveling. However, for those already on the lookout to find out who her abusive ex-husband is, Luddington warns to not hold their breaths, at least not for a couple more episodes.

"I think it'll happen when things are going well between them — because that's how Grey's Anatomy works. They're in such a desperate situation right now, so I don't think it'll happen immediately. But maybe by the end of the season," she told TVLine's Michael Ausiello as part of the writer's spoilers roundup.

In a separate conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Luddington reasons out why she thinks that Jo's past will inevitably catch up with her. As fans already know, repercussions of keeping her real identity have already sparked a lot of commotion in Grey Sloan so it is only fitting to keep the ball rolling further.

"I feel like he has to because it's Grey's Anatomy and that's what they do; we bring people back from your past who are unexpected. He's been the elephant in the room for a long time now, and I think it's time to meet him," the actress said referring to her character's never-before-seen but much-talked-about husband.

Meanwhile, with "Grey's Anatomy" returning with new episodes next week — instead of its supposed comeback this week, the delay being due to ABC's special feature for President-elect Donald Trump. As previously reported, the midseason premiere will have a prison-set theme ironically without Alex in it. Instead, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), Jo and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) are called to attend to an inmate. As it turns out, the set that the long-running Shonda Rhimes show filmed for their upcoming outing is borrowed from their "TGIT" sibling show, "Scandal."

"Grey's Anatomy" will start airing new episodes starting this Thursday, 9 p.m. ET.
