'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers: Jackson and April's relationship to take center stage in next week's episode
Episode 16 of season 13 will once again bring Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and April Kepner (Sarah Drew) together, with the estranged couple traveling to Montana to perform a complicated surgery. However, Jackson will be distracted for some reason, so April will take on the responsibility of grounding him in order to perform the surgery effectively.
The two have had a bumpy relationship. Originally starting as best friends, they eventually developed a sexual relationship. They soon broke up, but they got back together again and ran away to get married in secret. However, trouble started in their relationship when their first child dies almost immediately after birth, with April joining the army as a trauma surgeon in order to cope with her loss. They eventually file for and were granted a divorce, only for Jackson to discover that she was expecting. They then decided to raise their child, Harriet, together as friends.
Fans cannot help but wonder, however, if this episode, which will center on their relationship, will be the show's way of bringing the two back together again. Williams and Drew have kept mum about what their characters' relationship will be like by the end of the episode. However, Drew had this to say about the episode in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: "There's a real turning point that happens for the two of them."
The same publication also did an interview with show producer Shonda Rhimes, who admitted that the two characters still care about each other. She said, "They're going to really try to do this in a healthy way, and is that healthy way going to feel so healthy when they still have feelings for each other?"
She also teased fans of the pairing in an interview with TVLine, saying "What's great is that parenting has nothing to do with their storyline this season. It gets much more interesting than you'd imagine."
Episode 16, titled "Who is He (And what is He to You)?" will air on March 16, Thursday, at 8 p.m. EDT on the ABC Television Network.
