'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 air date, plot spoilers: April's unexpected visitor, unpleasant news for DeLuca
There are just a few days to go before "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 hits the air once again, and it looks like the upcoming installment has a surprise waiting right from the get-go.
A new sneak peek for season 13 was recently released, where Debbie Allen, who plays Catherine on the series, is seen clawing her way back into April's (Sarah Drew) life.
It will be recalled that April and Jackson (Jesse Williams) had a rocky storyline in season 12. The two got their divorce, but it was only after it was finalized that Jackson discovered April was pregnant with their baby. As expected, it caused a major rift between them, and it didn't help that Catherine (Allen) chose to capitalize on April's secret to take away the latter's custody rights for her child.
However, before season 12 ended, Jackson and April agreed to co-parent their baby, and with showrunner Shonda Rhimes teasing that the two might still have feelings for each, fans are hoping the little baby can bring her parents back together.
Check out the promo clip for "Grey's Anatomy" season 3 episode 1 titled "Undo" below:
In the clip, April sees her ex-mother-in-law Catherine cradling her baby, and when April asks what she's doing, she replies matter-of-factly, "She was just fussing a little bit, so I thought you could use the sleep and I just swooped her up."
Catherine also asked how April's doing after all she's been through, but it remains to be seen whether her kindness is genuine.
Meanwhile, it looks like Andrew DeLuca's (Giacomo Gianniotti) good deed of bringing home a drunk Jo (Camilla Luddington) to Alex (Justin Chambers), which eventually led to him getting beaten the heck out by Alex, will put him right in the middle of the couple's domestic drama.
A fan inquired via Entertainment Weekly what will happen to DeLuca in season 13, and according to EW, he will not only live through the ordeal but also get a bigger storyline in the upcoming season.
"We're going to get to know DeLuca a lot better, who we don't know at all, and who we've just started to scratch the surface of," Rhimes said. "Now, because this thing has happened to him, he has found himself in a spotlight that he was not interested in ever being in."
"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 returns Thursday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
