'Gotham' season 3 spoilers: Oswald, Jim and Bruce vs. the women of Gotham
The women of Gotham are taking over the city one Gotham man at a time. Ironically, the one most noted for being mercilessly villainous revealed an unexpectedly maternal side to her in the latest episode of the pre-Batman superhero series "Gotham: Mad City," which is now in its third season of FOX's pre-Batman superhero series.
When Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) confronted Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) about the latter's reason for sparing his life the night of the Indian Hill breakout, Fish melted his vengeful wrath by calling him her former "umbrella boy." She added that she was the one who created the Penguin, Oswald's criminal moniker, and that she could not possibly destroy something that she herself had nurtured.
This revelation made Oswald stand down and let Fish escape with former Arkharm director and Indian Hill's mad scientist, Hugo Strange (B. D. Wong). It remains to be known how Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) would react to the betrayal after he had so generously led Fish into Oswald's vengeful hands. This encounter had also raised questions about Fish and the Penguin possibly teaming up again in the near future.
Meanwhile, Jim himself had an unfortunate encounter with the newest reporter of "The Gazette," Gotham City's official newspaper publication. Valerie Vale (Jamie Chung) proposed that the two of them team up to catch Fish and cash in on the one-million-dollar bounty Oswald had put on her head. However, all the two of them did was blindside each other, as Valerie had proven to be just as sly as Fish herself. They kissed and made up eventually, but would Jim really let himself trust his new flame completely?
And then there's Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), who was finally allowed an audience with the Court of Owl's representative, Kathryn (Leslie Hendrix). The woman, whom Bruce had seen in parties at his home, told him to stop looking into any involvement that the Court had with Wayne Enterprises as well as with his parents' murders. This was the only way Bruce could ensure his and his friend's safety and so he agreed without batting an eye. However, will the infamously stubborn Bruce really keep his word? Only time will tell.
Also worthy of mention are Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), who seemed to be growing into the likeness of infamous villain Harley Quinn at each turn; Ivy Pepper (Maggie Geha), who took no time at all adjusting to her sudden growth into womanhood, thanks to an Indian Hill escapee's aging touch; and Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), who had just returned home to Gotham.
It would be interesting to see how Jim would fare through each encounter with these women, who had all been part of his former life before Gotham fell into the chaotic madness that it is now.
Meanwhile, the third episode of "Gotham: Mad City" titled, "Look Into My Eyes," will introduce yet another one of Batman's formidable foes, the Mad Hatter, who will be played by Samuel Benedict.
According to TV Guide, Jervis Tetch aka the Mad Hatter will come to Gotham to hire Jim to find Alice, his sister, for him. Penguin will be running for mayor, while Bruce's not-so-innocent doppelganger will start looking and acting more like him much to the confusion of everybody else.
"Gotham: Mad City" airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX and anytime on FOX Now.
