Google Nexus 7 2016 release date, specs rumors: Google to team up with HTC for tablet?
At a Google event held last month, the company teased a few of its upcoming devices, which includes the Pixel-branded smartphones and the Daydream VR. But one device that tech junkies were expecting wasn't launched at the event.
Tech enthusiasts were hoping the company would launch the Google Nexus 7 tablet, but the device was never unveiled. Now, they are unsure about the fate of the series.
Previous reports suggested that the tablet will be manufactured by Huawei. The claims were bolstered by Evan Blass, who is known for revealing inside information on upcoming devices. Blass previously sent out a tweet about the alleged tablet, suggesting that the Nexus 7 will be launched this year.
"Google's Huawei-built 7-inch tablet, with 4GB RAM, on track for release before the end of the year," Blass wrote.
Bass' claims were debunked by more recent reports. According to GSMArena, the device will not be developed by Huawei since the company previously refused to team up with Google. The company once declined Google to manufacture its Pixel phones. Hence, it is highly unlikely that the company will be producing its smartphones.
The news outlet suggests that Google contacted Huawei before choosing HTC to manufacture the Pixel devices. According to GSMArena, Huawei declined the offer because the devices will not share its brand.
In an interview with Huawei Vice President of the Consumer Business Group Colin Giles, German publication WinFuture was able to confirm that the aforementioned reports regarding Huawei and Google teaming up were true.
Since Huawei has confirmed the reports, it's highly unlikely for the company to produce tablets for Google. Perhaps Google will once again team up with HTC for the development of an upcoming tablet. Since this hasn't been confirmed by the companies, tech junkies should treat it as speculation until proven otherwise.
