Google Daydream VR headset news, price, release date: VR headset to launch on Nov. for $79
Google's Daydream View Virtual Reality (VR) headset, which will be available in three colors, will be on sale for $79 starting November.
The headset will need to be paired with Android smartphones that can support the Daydream software. Google's latest Pixel phones will be able to connect to the headset.
Reports said the device is similar to Samsung's Gear VR headset; however, Google's device will be made out of fabric that's conventionally used for sportswear. Hence, it's 30 percent lighter than VR headsets with the same capabilities. Moreover, the headsets will be available in three colors: dark grey, light grey and red.
The VR headset will have a controller, which will be crucial for navigating activity within the virtual reality worlds. This controller is essential for gameplay. Inside this piece are sensors, which will detect the players' movement. The sensors are so precise that gamers can even use it to write.
The tech giant also revealed that the VR headset will be capable of accessing several Google apps. For instance, VR headset users will be able to use YouTube to stream various videos hosted on the site. Google Street View will provide access to virtual tours of historic places, and Google Photos will exhibit 360-degree photos. Meanwhile, Google Play Movies will allow the gadget owner to watch videos and shows in a VR theatre.
Google VR headset will be made compatible with Android smartphones from various manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei and HTC.
Just last May, Google confirmed at the I/O Developers Conference that the Daydream VR is underway. But tech enthusiasts won't have to wait that long to get their hands on this latest piece. It will be available for pre-order starting Oct. 20 at Verizon and the Google Store.
