Golden State Warriors trade rumors 2016: Anderson Varejao signs new deal
Looking to bring in a familiar face back to Oakland, the Golden State Warriors and Anderson Varejao have agreed to a new one-year deal.
This new contract secures the Brazilian to one more season with the Warriors as he tries to help bring back the championship to Oracle Arena.
Varejao was a big fan-favorite last season, making a big move from Eastern powerhouse Cleveland Cavaliers to the West Coast.
His energy and presence on the floor helped the Warriors reach the NBA Finals, but they eventually lost to the Cavaliers in an epic seven-game series.
Now, ESPN has revealed that his services are still wanted in Oracle, and he is hoping that in this coming year, he can help the Warriors lift the title.
With the signing of Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Warriors are strapped for cash and have to limit contracts and players they want to keep.
Their original core is now missing Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes, but Durant will be with Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Steph Curry.
Having Varejao in the team will help them have a solid big man who is not afraid to be physical down low and one who can also be trusted to make the scrappy plays underneath the basket.
Varejao's numbers are not very impressive as he only averaged 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 22 appearances for the Warriors in the regular season. However, his energy and passion for the game is certainly one that can lift the team's spirits when needed.
At 33 years old, Varejao will easily take on the starting center slot as he has the length and the big body that can clog up the shaded area when the Warriors are on defense.
Expect more updates and more signings from the Warriors as they continue to rebuild their roster around their superstars.
