'Girl Meets World' season 4 renewal news 2016: Disney yet to renew show; Freeform transfer in the cards?
"Girl Meets World" season 4 is still up in the air as Disney Channel is yet to renew the show, which makes fans and even the cast members themselves worried.
In the past, Disney renewed it for new seasons in the midst of its run. The network announced a second season August 2014, just two months after the "Boy Meets World" spin-off premiered.
Disney greenlit a third season November last year, six months after the premiere of the second season. It's almost three months since "Girl Meets World" season 3 so the network could just be taking its time.
Although "Girl Meets World" season 3 is currently being aired, lead star Rowan Blanchard suggested the possibility of the show being axed.
In an interview with SheKnows, the starlet spoke about "Girl Meets World" season 4 and the odds of the show getting another year of adventure for her character Riley.
"I know as much as you do," Blanchard revealed. "We are hoping for a Season 4, obviously, because we want to continue our story, and I feel like it's an important story to tell," she added.
She said that just like fans, they themselves are waiting for "Girl Meets World" season 4 to be made official. A Disney representative also told TVLine a couple of months back that a renewal is yet to be discussed.
Shows on Disney usually last four seasons so fans are not worried about the series ending so soon. However, there are some who would like to see its continuation on Freeform.
Not only will the show get the chance to last beyond "Girl Meets World" season 4, it will also get to tackle mature storylines that cannot be covered on Disney.
According to Zap2it, Disney is not renewing the show yet because it could be thinking about the content of the show and its teenage cast, who are growing up right before viewers' eyes.
As fans wait, they can focus first on the third season, which is currently on hiatus right now and will be back on Sept. 16 for the episode "Girl Meets Great Lady of New York."
