'Girl Meets World' season 4 news, canceled or renewed updates: Spin-off series being considered?

The fate of "Girl Meets World" is uncertain, as rumors say Disney is hesitant to renew the series because of the direction it is going. There are reports that the storyline of the series might become more mature, which is why Disney is thinking twice about renewing it for a fourth season.

The show is currently being aired on Disney Junior, a division of Disney that caters to younger audiences. A mature storyline for the lead stars of the series might not be suitable for the Disney Junior audient, and because of this, Disney is apparently thinking of canceling the series.

"Girl Meets World" season 13 is currently airing on the network, with episode 14 airing on Sept. 26. Hence, the series can be said to be in the latter half of the season. There are reports that filming for season 4 has long ended, and ideally, there should be news about the latest installment by now.

Nevertheless, Disney is yet to give the green light to "Girl Meets World" season 4, thereby worrying fans who are assuming the worst—that their favorite series has been axed. A representative of Disney said in an interview with TV Line that there are no active discussions about the upcoming installment.

"With episodes airing on Disney Channel into 2017, there's no news to share yet about a fourth season," the rep said.

The statement might simply mean it's too early to talk about a fourth season, seeing as there are enough episodes for the current season to last through next year.

Still, one fan who can't seem to wait started an online petition asking Disney to renew the show for a fourth season. The petition, started by Ashley Carter, currently has about 16,000 signees.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that a spin-off series starring 9-year-old Ava Kolker, who plays the role of Ava Morgenstern in "Girl Meets World," is being considered in case the show doesn't get to have a fourth season.

However, unless the official word comes from Disney, everything related to "Girl Meets World" season 4, including news of its cancellation or renewal, should be considered pure speculation.

"Girl Meets World" season 3 is currently airing, with episode 14 titled "Girl Meets She Don't Like Me" dropping in on Friday, Sept. 26.
