Disney Channel has decided not to push through "Girl Meets World" season 4, which saddened the legion of fans of the hit "Boy Meets World" spinoff.

While it appears that the network's decision is final, fans started flocking the old online petition that seeks the renewal of the show for another season in the hopes of having Disney reverse its verdict.

Several months back, the online petition started by fan Ashley Carter, who referred to "Girl Meets World" as "the best show on Disney Channel," only had a little over 3,000 supporters.

Now, 17,500 people have already signed their name on the online petition, hoping that Disney will change its mind about not doing "Girl Meets World" season 4 when it sees the support the show has.

There are those hoping that Netflix will pick it up. After all, the streaming giant has once breathed new life to a canceled show, which is "Longmire" and gave it two more years to live.

However, Netflix does not just pick shows up when asked. Explaining last year why they decided against reviving "Agent Carter" after being canceled by ABC, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said, "We're looking for truly original brands to own and in that Marvel space we already have [original comic book shows] — so that was mostly why."

"Girl Meets World" is entirely different though so this could be where fans of the show are holding on. Additionally, there are also those hoping ABC, which is the original home of "Boy Meets World," could step in and save the spinoff.

The fate of the series was in a limbo ever since filming for the third season ended in July. The stars of the series campaigned for renewal with fans backing them up.

However, in the end, Disney deemed "Girl Meets World" season 4 will not happen. The cast and crew of the series have accepted the show's fate.

Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter shared lengthy messages thanking fans of the opportunity.

Peyton Meyer, Will Friedle and the writers also took to social media to express their gratitude for the experience.
