'Gears of War' movie release date and news: Universal developing a movie for the hit Xbox game
Microsoft's "Gears of War" has come to be one of the most successful games for the Xbox, and Universal Pictures is reportedly working on a movie adaptation of the hit shooter franchise.
In an interview with Variety, head of game development Rod Fergusson talks about the movie and the necessary steps that they are planning to make this movie a success.
He says, "As a way to support the franchise the next logical step was to make the movie. We'd done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect."
A lot of seasoned moviegoers have known that movies based on video games tend to be critical flops. This year's release of the "Warcraft" movie was not met well by critics but "Warcraft" players in China have turned it into a huge hit.
Fergusson comments on how much the movie will be different from the game and how they plan to use the rich lore of "Gear of War" to drive the movie.
"I think you have to let the movies be the movies," said Fergusson. "They're two different mediums, and two different audiences in some cases, and I think some video game movies in the past have failed because they tried to make a movie for gamers," he added.
Fergusson then goes on to say that the franchise has a rich enough back story to make a great film. He then elaborates that the development team is trying to find a way for the movie to follow the lore but at the same time feel genuine to the game.
Fans only hope that the "Gears of War" movie will finally give audiences a good video game film. Some are already speculating that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is on top of Universal's list of possible actors to star in the movie.
The movie may not be coming out soon but fans can get their hands on "Gears of War 4" when it comes out on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
