'Gears of War 4' release date and news: Launch trailer showcases new story, tech and vehicles
The "Gears of War" franchise is ready to get back in action. Peace was finally achieved when Marcus Fenix and his battalion defeated the Locusts in the previous game. However, it looks like a new wave of terror is coming and Marcus has to bring his entire family o the battlefield with him.
A new trailer focuses on the story behind "Gears of War 4" and it appears like a whole new group of fighters are at the disposal of every gamer. The trailer also shows that Marcus has aged quite a bit since the first game but that doesn't mean he no longer has what it takes to kick some serious butt. This time around, the spotlight will be on Marcus' son, JD, and his friends, Kait and Del.
The official synopsis of the video states: "A new saga begins for one of the most acclaimed video game franchises in history. After narrowly escaping an attack on their village, JD Fenix and his friends, Kait and Del, must rescue the ones they love and discover the source of a monstrous new enemy."
The trailer also showcases new vehicles that players may be able to use throughout the game. Though the trailer may not feature any actual gameplay, the cinematography is enough to give players a taste of what's to come with "Gears of War 4." Aside from some futuristic motorcycles, the game also features a bunch of giant mech suits that are akin to the "Pacific Rim" mechs.
The game still has the classic co-op mode that "Gears of War" has been known for. However, a new "Horde mode" is said to be available. It looks like a "class-based" mode that allows players to build reinforcements as they go against 50 waves of enemies.
"Gears of War 4" launches Tuesday, Oct. 11.
