'Game of Thrones' season 7 spoilers news 2016: Series filming upcoming season in Iceland? San Diego Comic-Con attendance confirmed
Fans of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" would have to wait a bit longer before they see their beloved characters back on the small screen. It appears filming for the upcoming episode will start later than expected because of the weather.
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss recently sat down for a podcast guesting on UFC Unfiltered, and there, they confirmed that the weather has prompted them to move the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 7 indefinitely. Apparently, with the sunny weather in full blast these days, filming episodes for a winter setting is certainly out of the question.
"We don't have an air date yet," Benioff and Weiss said on the podcast. "We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' – and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot," they added.
Fans would recall that during the season 6 finale, Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) informed Jon Snow (Kit Harington) that winter has come to the Seven Kingdoms. That alone is enough indication that in season 7, things will get snowy and cold.
Meanwhile, the website Winter Is Coming said there are uncorroborated reports that Iceland could be the next filming destination for "Game of Thrones" season 7. Apparently, an Icelandic news site, VÃsir.is, reported that employees of HBO met with a local film production company so they could start filming scenes by January 2017.
It makes sense, seeing as how seasons 2 and 3 of the show were filmed in Iceland, as Jon had to travel beyond the Wall. According to the website Winter Is Coming, the average temperature in ReykjavÃk, the country's capital city, was -0.3°C (31.5°F), below freezing, in January of 2015. If that same temperature is experienced in January next year, then it Iceland would definitely be the perfect setting for "Game of Thrones" season 7, although it would be one uncomfortable shoot.
In related news, the series has confirmed its attendance at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). The SDCC website listed that "Game of Thrones" will have a question and answer panel at Hall H on July 22, Friday. The full list of attendees, as well as the exact time of their appearance, is found on SDCC's official announcement.
