'Game of Thrones' season 7 spoilers news: Sansa betrays Jon Snow; Cersei defeats Daenerys?
She may be the new Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, but Cersei Lannister would need the help of a powerful ally if she intends to defeat her foes and keep the Iron Throne. That's what the latest spoilers for "Game of Thrones" season 7 seem to point to.
In "The Winds of Winter," the season finale episode of "Game of Thrones" season 6, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) was able to defeat most of her enemies and claim the Iron Throne. Nevertheless, many still have their eyes set on the throne, so it looks like season 7 would have her forming an alliance with Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) in order to secure it.
Although Euron Greyjoy effectively claimed the Salt Throne, his plan to kill Theon (Alfie Allen) and Yara (Gemma Whelan) to assure his title fell through when the two escaped. The turn of events prompted Euron to turn his sights on Westeros.
Thing is, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), now in an alliance with Theon and Yara, is on her way to Westeros, too. Hence, it looks like Euron would have to resort to Plan B, which is to form an alliance with Cersei, as both would need an increased army size to defeat the Mother of Dragons.
Cersei might want to defeat Daenerys in order to keep the Iron Throne while Euron might have plans for her dragons; thus, the two might connive to bring The Mother of Dragons down. Of course, this is something "Game of Thrones" season 7 would soon verify for viewers.
Meanwhile, HBO recently released a "Game of Thrones" survey where fans get to choose which "GoT" characters they would want to pair and run for an electoral post (being that it's election time in the US).
Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) was surprisingly paired with Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish (Aiden Gillen), and fans immediately construed this pairing as HBO's subtle way of teasing an eventual alliance between Littlefinger and Sansa in "Game of Thrones" season 7.
It can be recalled that in "Battle of the Bastards," Littlefinger helped Jon Snow (Kit Harington) defeat Ramsay Bolton's (Iwan Rheon) men. Still, just before season 6 ended, he told Sansa that he wanted to claim the Iron Throne and have her rule the Seven Kingdoms with him.
Should Sansa agree to this in season 7, then Sansa would be betraying Jon, something that Turner might have alluded to in a past interview.
Will Cersei and Euron join forces to take down the Mother of Dragons? Is Sansa going to betray Jon? The answers to these would be revealed when "Game of Thrones" season 7 returns on HBO summer of 2017.
