'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Episode 4 Spoilers, Plot Recap: Fast-Paced Action Continues to Quicken
Episode 4 of Season 5 of "Game Of Thrones," titled "Sons of Harpy" which aired last Sunday, quickened the pace of an already fast-paced season as specific storylines unfold further. The action happened mostly in four general locations – Meereen, King's Landing, Dorne and the North.
In Dorne, Jaime Lannister and Bronn battled four Dornish soldiers after they jumped ship and swam to shore. While both Jamie and Bronn were excellent swordsmen, with Jamie being the best in all of the Seven Kingdoms when he still had both hands, the Jamie of the present had to deal with a fake gold hand. When asked by Bronn how many he could take on, Jaime said, "One – if he's slow." So Bronn took on three and Jaime battled one. Jaime got to use his fake right hand to stop a sword blow to his face as he pierced his foe's body with his sword.
Jaime and Bronn were in Dorne on a mission to rescue Myrcella, Jaime's daughter with his twin sister Cersei.
Meanwhile, Ellaria Sands expressed her intent to kill Myrcella to avenge the death of her husband Oberyn in King's Landing.
When she found out that Jaime and Bronn had entered Dorne from the captain of the ship that carried them in, Ellaria's thirst for revenge intensified. She was not alone. She had the Sand Snakes – an interesting trio of Oberyn's bastard daughters – highly trained fighters with great skills, ready to go to war with Ellaria. One of them threw a spear into the head of the ship captain, who was buried in the sand up to his neck.
In King's Landing, the Sparrows' presence and power had increased. The High Sparrow was in Cersei's pocket. Loras Tyrelle was captured by the Sparrows for his homosexual behavior – no thanks to Cersei for the tip-off. Earlier in Episode 3, the Sparrows shamed the high priest, parading him naked after catching him in a brothel.
The capture of Loras looked like a ploy by Cersei to assert her control over Margaery, who still seemed to have the upper hand in terms of wielding control over King Tommen, who at the moment, seemed to be thinking of nothing but sex. Poor Tommen though got the raw end of the deal as his wife could not comprehend why the King could not get Loras out of prison.
In the North, Stannis Baratheon showed his softer side as he revealed the extent of his love for his deformed daughter, even though the feeling was not shared by her mom. Melisandre tried to seduce Jon Snow yet again. As he passed up the opportunity, Melisandre said, "You know nothing, Jon Snow," mimicking the words uttered by Snow's deceased wildling ex-girlfriend.
Near Meereen, back in Episode 3, we saw Joras Mormont capturing Tyrion Lannister, saying he was taking Tyrion "to the queen." This episode, it was confirmed that the queen he was referring to was Daenerys Targaryen, not Cersei. Jorah meant to surrender Tyrion to Daenerys in an effort to get into the good graces of Dany once again.
In Mereen, the Sons of Harpy attacked a band of Dany's troops. Grey Worm and his group pursued a man with the Harpy mask and fell into an ambush. The Unsullied were outnumbered and the battle was brutal. Barristan Selmy arrived to help a badly wounded Grey Worm but was critically wounded himself by the Sons of Harpy. At the end of the episode, both lay on the ground, apparently mortally wounded.
