The Galaxy S5 didn't become a bestseller for Samsung after it was released last year. People looking for cheaper alternatives have instead been drawn to the One Mini 2 from HTC.

Design

The One Mini 2 comes with lovely rounded edges and a brushed metal body that gives it a premium look very much like the bigger HTC One (M8). As for the Galaxy S5, its curves are subtle and it has a plastic frame much like other phones from Samsung. As for its back panel, it is also made from plastic with dimples. However, the Galaxy S5 is IP67 certified and can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor.

Display

On the Galaxy S5 is a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 432 pixels per inch. As for the One Mini 2 it has a 4.5-inch super LCD2 screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch.

Platform

Both the Galaxy S5 and the One Mini 2 come loaded with the Android KitKat operating system which can be upgraded to the latest Lollipop version. The One Mini 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset coupled with a quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. The Galaxy S5 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801chipset coupled with a quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU.

Memory

Both devices have memory card slots which can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, the Galaxy S5 has 2 GB while the One Mini 2 has 1 GB.

Price

The Galaxy S5 can be purchased for $199 with a standard two-year contract, and the One Mini 2 costs $409 without any contract.
