'Frozen 2' release date news: Money problems and story line issues halt sequel production?
"Frozen" is touted as one of the most successful animated films of all time. However, recent reports indicate that the planned sequel to the musical fantasy movie may not start its production any time soon due to financing problems. The problem is also compounded with story line issues that could delay the anticipated release date.
As reported by Chatt Sports Net, "Frozen 2" is currently tight on money which may put the production in jeopardy. With these budget issues, the show could be postponed — at least until adequate financing is secured — or even dropped completely.
Moreover, other highly budgeted films like "Beauty and the Beast" and " The Little Mermaid" may have possibly affected Disney's decision to halt the production of "Frozen 2" for now. The entertainment giant offered no confirmation regarding the issue.
Apart from money concerns, other speculations suggest that filmmakers may not have completely sorted out the conflicts over the sequel's storyline. Following up on the earlier success of the original film can be a tall order for the writers who have to pitch a good story that will meet huge expectations from fans and critics alike.
In a recent interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live", Kristen Bell, who voiced Anna in the movie, revealed that she hasn't seen the script yet. Bell added that the script writers are still in the process of developing a perfect storyline.
"We haven't started recording, we're just waiting to get our hands on the script. They take a lot of time over there to just perfect it, and it has to go through a lot of development to make sure that it's exactly the story that needs to be told. I hope we start recording soon," Bell said on the show, as reported by The List.
Meanwhile, issues over the sequel's rumored storylines have long been a subject of social media attention, particularly some groups that want Elsa's story to have a lesbian twist. As reported by the Inquisitr, the hashtag campaign #GiveElsaAGirlfriend initiated by Alexis Isabel Moncada became a rallying point for those who wanted to make animated films a platform to highlight issues involving wider social representation of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders.
