'For Honor' release date, gameplay & latest news: game may require internet connection at all times
"For Honor" is going to be hitting the shelves early next year, but one caveat needs mentioning before gamers grab a copy. Apparently, the game may require players to have an active internet connection at all times.
Twitter user Wario64 spotted this important detail on the game's box art and he shared it on his Twitter account to inform others. Gamers can also check out the listing on Amazon. There's clearly an "internet connection required" advisory on the cover art. It didn't say the connection was required for multiplayer or product activation like some other games.
This flies in the face of the statement made by "For Honor" creative director Jason VandenBerghe back in September.
"We built the campaign so that if you bought the game just for that, that you would be satisfied even if you never went online and played multiplayer. It's intended to be a full experience," VandenBerghe told GameSpot.
"For Honor" might have been marketed as a multiplayer game, but the game was supposed to have an offline single-player campaign mode as well. What happened? VandenBerghe made that comment a few months ago, so did Ubisoft decided to move in a different direction between then and now?
Some gamers will argue that this isn't necessarily a game breaker, but it should be noted that a stable connection is required at all times. What if the internet connection keeps dropping out? Will this make the game unplayable?
Some NeoGAF forum members aren't exactly pleased after hearing the news, but gamers should not discount the possibility that this is just a misunderstanding. It's possible that the internet connection is only required for the multiplayer portion of the game. Ubisoft has yet to address this issue, though.
"For Honor" is scheduled to come out on Feb. 12, 2017. The game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
