'Final Fantasy VII' remake news: Game to come out in three parts
"Final Fantasy VII," which was released in 1997, is arguably one of the most popular games made by Square Enix (then Square Soft) if its various spin-offs are any indication. Its large fan base has requested the game to be remade several times. Almost two decades after the game was first released, Square Enix has finally confirmed that it will be remaking this game, which features the story of Cloud and the rest of the terrorist group AVALANCHE in their bid to stop Shin-Ra, a company bent on draining the planet of its energy, and the rogue super-soldier Sephiroth from destroying the world.
"Final Fantasy VII Remake" is currently in production, according to Tetsuya Nomura, who helmed most games in the "Final Fantasy" series and who will serve as a director for this upcoming game title. This was said in an interview with Famitsu, which was translated by Gematsu.
Producer Yoshinori Kitase, who, like Nomura, was involved in producing the original game, revealed to Game Informer (via Gamespot) that the actual game will be split into multiple, full-sized games, similar to "Final Fantasy XIII," which ran for three games.
Kitase also said that they will be tweaking with the story to modernize it. He said, "We were the people who created it, so in that sense, we don't think anything is untouchable." However, he was quick to say that they will revamp everything. He did not provide more information on which parts will be changed and which ones will remain the same.
One of the biggest changes that fans can expect is the type of gameplay. According to Nomura in another Gematsu interview, the game will veer away from its original turn-based setup. Instead, it will feature an action-based system, much like what was used in "Final Fantasy XV." He also said that the game will feature a different set of attacks from the original. Nomura also hinted at the possibility of the playable characters being able to interact with the environment even during battle.
As of writing, no launch date has been given for "Final Fantasy VII Remake."
