Square Enix's science fiction and fantasy media franchise "Final Fantasy" will reportedly launch a remake of "Final Fantasy 7." It will feature an action-based gameplay, game director Tesuya Nomura revealed.

The original "Final Fantasy 7" was launched in January 1997. Though it's been nearly two decades since then, the rumor mill has churned various speculations suggesting a remake.

Rumor has it that the developers will be launching the remake in 2017. However, gamers will reportedly be treated to a glimpse of the role-playing video game at the PSX 2016 event.

According to reports, the video game will have a new battle system. Siliconera reported that last week's issue of Dengeki PlayStation featured an interview with Nomura. He revealed important details about upcoming titles "Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8." He also talked about the "Final Fantasy 7" remake.

Nomura told the news outlet, "The battles in Final Fantasy 7 have greatly changed from the original, since they're something with more action in them. The next time I release information about Final Fantasy 7 Remake, I think that I'll definitely have to explain the specifics of what the battle system has become to the players."

Though the director can't say a lot about the game since it's still in development, he did say that the remake will have an action-heavy style. Nomura told the publication that new systems will be added, to provide a better gameplay experience. He also said that it won't be similar to the previous system gamers have grown accustomed to.

Furthermore, Nomura boasted about the Guard Scorpion, which can be found at the beginning of the game. He thinks that the realism will satisfy fans.

Though fans of the franchise expect the game to launch next year, Square Enix has yet to announce the release date for the title's remake. Watch out for more updates on Square Enix's "Final Fantasy 7" remake.
