'Final Fantasy 15' news: New details on upcoming multiplayer feature revealed; next DLC to center on Gladio's journey after encounter with Ravus
New details about the anticipated multiplayer feature for "Final Fantasy 15" have been revealed.
According to reports, the RPG's upcoming DLC will allow players to come up with new multiplayer avatars similar to many single-player focused titles. This feature was recently hinted for a potential PC port in the future and it seems that fans looking forward to teaming up with other players online will soon have the chance to do so.
Game director Hajime Tabata spoke with Polygon to discuss the game, and he revealed some information about the multiplayer mode. "There are a lot of things I can't really say about the multiplayer future just yet, but it will tie into the game — the main game — at some point in the story," he said. "And for the multiplayer feature, we are less focused on playing as the four main characters but rather as an avatar that the user creates themselves," Tabata added.
While Tabata didn't talk about specifics, there is certainly a lot to unpack in his interview. He confirmed that players won't be taking on the role of one of the main characters. Instead, they will just be controlling a user-created avatar. Playstation Lifestyle notes that Tabata's description of the multiplayer mode sounds like the multiplayer in "Final Fantasy Type-0," in which players are allowed to drop in and out of the title.
Over the weekend, Square Enix has released an update on the upcoming story-related downloadable content. The expansion is still without a release date, but the company confirmed that it will be priced at $4.99 for non-season pass holders. "Episode Gladiolus" picks up after the group's confrontation with Ravus. Gladio decides to embark on his own journey and train with Cor to become a stronger fighter. As he sets on his mission alone, Gladio will face obstacles by fighting against monsters scattered along the way.
Developed and published by Square Enix, "Final Fantasy 15" is available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One home consoles.
