Fifty Shades Darker Cast News: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan Want Big Pay Rise to Star in 'Fifty Shades Grey' Sequel
It looks like "Fifty Shades of Grey" creators need to shell out more millions if they want to see Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return together in the red room of pain.
The stars of the erotic drama have reportedly been seeking raises of more than a million dollars each to reprise their roles in the franchise's two remaining sequels, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
Several reports also said the two, who only received $250,000 each for the first film, will try to renegotiate for seven-figure raises to appear in the "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed."
Citing sources, The Hollywood Reporter said neither the 25-year-old actress nor the 32-year-old actor received any back-end compensation for the film, which is poised to top $550 million in box office receipts worldwide.
Although the raises the two stars are demanding may seem astronomical, another insider said the increment sought is actually par for the course, taking cue from Jennifer Lawrence, who only received half a million dollars to play Katniss Everdeen in the first "The Hunger Games."
"It was a very basic franchise starter deal. Look at Twilight and Hunger Games, and that's where it is heading," an insider told the Reporter.
Lawrence was reported to have received $10 million for "The Hunger Games" sequel, "Catching Fire."
But "Fifty Shades of Grey" producer Dana Brunetti said he's hoping to stay close to the first movie's relatively modest $40 million budget without spending too much on salaries.
"That was the great thing about this film – we knew we were going to be able to make stars. Now it's their opportunity to get paid on other projects. It's been a breakout role for both of them. I'm sure they are getting tons of offers on other things," Brunetti said
For his part, Dornan, 32, has insisted that he's game to return for the sequels despite rumors that the franchise might lose its Mr. Grey.
"Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide, and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film," Dornan's rep told People last month.
