'Fear the Walking Dead' season 3 news: Showrunner to exit after upcoming season

David Erickson, the showrunner of "Fear the Walking Dead," will pull out as a producer of the show following a multi-year deal he made with AMC.

From being a show producer, he will now be a developer for AMC, as well as the networks under AMC.

Joel Stillerman, the president of original programming and development for AMC and Sundance TV, said, "With Dave as showrunner, the series fulfilled its creative promise to expand the 'Walking Dead' universe in a way that was totally unique from the original series, and has gone on to become the number two drama series in ad-supported cable, behind only 'The Walking Dead.'"

"We are also incredibly excited that Dave has chosen to stay in the AMC family to pursue his next passion project. We look forward to many more successful collaborations," he continued.

Aside from "Fear the Walking Dead," Erickson also served as a producer for "Sons of Anarchy," "Marco Polo," and "Low Winter Sun." He also worked on "Canterbury's Law."

Erickson, together with "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman, developed the concept of "Fear the Walking Dead." Even though he will no longer be directly involved with the show, he will still be credited as an executive producer.

Erickson's replacement for "Fear the Walking Dead" has not been identified yet.

Meanwhile, two new actors will be joining the cast in the show's third season. Emma Caulfield, best known for her role as Anya in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," will take on a role that is not yet revealed. Fans are speculating that she will be playing a villain, following previous announcements that season 3 will see a female antagonist. Daniel Sharman, who appeared in "Teen Wolf" and "The Originals," is now a series regular, playing the character Troy, who was described as "charismatic with a cruel streak."

No date has been given on when season 3 of "Fear the Walking Dead" will start airing.
