Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) finally crossed over to the dark side in the latest episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2.

In Sunday's episode, Chris shot and killed an innocent man who was only protecting his property. The look on Travis' (Cliff Curtis) face after Chris shot the man reflected his shock and the sick realization that his son had turned into a monster — someone who, despite his efforts, may be too far gone. As fans recall, Travis had decided to split from Madison's (Kim Dickens) group in the AMC show's midseason finale as he sensed that Chris was increasingly becoming a threat to everyone else.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner Dave Erickson gave some insight as to what was going on in Chris' head, explaining that Chris has definitely crossed over to the apocalyptic side. According to the "Fear" boss, the young man's actions are a consequence of his feelings of isolation and anger, as well as his need to find others who get how he feels.

"I think Chris has crossed a line, but I also think that he feels that it is justified and that there is an actual practical and pragmatic reason to do it," Erickson said.

The showrunner also revealed that Travis, who was devastated by what Chris did, will spend one or two more episodes trying to save Chris from the villain he is turning into. The distraught dad, who is longing for the young boy Chris was before the zombie apocalypse, is in denial about Chris' current state of mind.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Henrie said: "I think his only goal is to find people that think like him, and find people that accept him for who he is. His goal, his immediate goal is survival."

Meanwhile, Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), who disappeared in a previous episode, has yet to reappear. According to Erickson, the character, whose father may have died in the midseason finale, essentially orphaning her, hasn't really accepted that Madison, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), and Strand (Colman Domingo) are her new family.

With her parents gone, Ofelia "might see sort of a last ditch opportunity to do something that's about her," Erickson said. "We'll catch up with her in a later episode and see what she's up to."

In the next episode of "Fear the Walking Dead," titled "Pablo & Jessica," viewers will find Nick (Frank Dillane) once again being tempted by drugs and will learn more about Alejandro's alleged zombie bite.

New episodes of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 air every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
