The latest episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 dropped a major bombshell that may lead to a tie-in with "The Walking Dead."

In Sunday's episode, Madison (Kim Dickens) and Strand (Colman Domingo) were knocking back tequila shots at the bar of the hotel they stumbled upon when Madison began talking about her past. One detail about the character's backstory was especially significant: as it turns out, Madison is from Alabama.

This bit of news stood out to avid viewers of "Fear the Walking Dead" as many of them began tuning into the zombie apocalypse series after years of watching "The Walking Dead," from which "Fear" is based on. As such, the news that Madison is originally from Alabama immediately had fans speculating that the "Fear the Walking Dead" character could be related to someone in "The Walking Dead," which is set in Alabama.

However, "Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner Dave Erickson had previously confirmed that the spinoff is unlikely to cross-over with "The Walking Dead."

Earlier this month, Erickson spoke to ComicBook.com about a possible "FTWD"–"TWD" crossover, saying, "As of right now, no, there is no plan."

"From a narrative perspective, nevermind the geography of it all, I think it would be too difficult to pull off," he explained. "I don't think there's anything, as far as I've read in the comic, I don't think there's any trackway for that either. It's such a complicated proposition and I think for the time being, the two shows just need to exist in their own spheres," Erickson continues

Nonetheless, plans change and anything can happen in the post-zombie apocalypse world. The publication notes that the theories for Madison's connection with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his crew include the possibility that she is Rick's sister and that her maiden name was Madison Grimes. This would be unlikely, however, as Rick has never mentioned having a sister, and Madison has yet to express any desire to find her supposed brother.

Another theory is that she is related to Lori Grimes (Sarah Wayne Callies), Rick's deceased wife. Revealing a connection between Madison and Lori seems pointless, however, as Lori is dead, and a reunion between the two is impossible at this point. Nevertheless, Lori's children — Carl (Chandler Riggs) and baby Judith — are still alive, and having Madison meet up with them at some point in the future could still be a focal point for a possible crossover.

New episodes of "Fear the Walking Dead" season 2 air every Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
