"Fargo" is keeping a tight lid on the plot details of its third season, but the show has dropped a few hints about what is in store. One of the biggest surprises revolves around Ewan McGregor's characters.

McGregor, who was cast as the show's lead for the upcoming season, will take on the character of Ray Stussy, a parole officer. He will also be playing the character's brother, Emmit, who was described in the synopsis as the "Parking Lot King of Minnesota." The sibling rivalry between the two is anchored on Ray's jealousy toward his older brother. A teaser for season 3 recently showed the actor looking different from how people are used to seeing him, having put on a few pounds and sporting a receding hairline and a mustache.

Also included in the cast is Carrie Coon, who plays police chief Gloria Burgle; Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Nikki Swango, Ray's parolee girlfriend; Michael Stuhlbarg as Sy Feltz, Emmit's right hand; David Thewlis as V.M. Vargas, a "mysterious loner" and Maurice LeFay as a stoner with a criminal record. Joining them are Jim Gaffigan, Shea Whigham, Karan Soni, Fred Melamed and Thomas Mann.

The third season will be set in 2010, leaving a window of opportunity for characters from seasons 1 and 2 to appear. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Noah Hawley said, "There will be definitely things that connect to something in our story."

However, he refused to divulge more details, explaining that he did not want to spoil the season for the viewers. He said, "There are going to be connections, the way the first year was connected to the movie and the second year was connected to the first, but I think part of the fun is figuring that stuff out and I wouldn't want to take that away from anybody."

Season 3 of "Fargo" will premiere on April 19 on FX.
